Biography - Harriet Babchick
Harriet Babchick is a Houston-based, American visual artist, specialising in oil painting and drawing. Born in Galveston, Texas in 1941 and raised in nearby Texas City, Harriet's family are of Russian, Ukranian and Austrian Jewish descent. With a lifetime ability and innate artistic talent, Harriet attended The University of Houston for her Bachelor's Degree in Fine Art in her late thirties and then completed her Master's Degree in Fine Art, also at University of Houston - graduating in her mid forties. Having studied under world-class artists, David Hickman, Gael Stack and Derek Boshier, Harriet learned painting and composition with their commanding guidance and sourced her themes from every part of her life experience.
While raising three daughters, Barbara, Susan and Debbie with her husband, Jack, Harriet based her creative practice in Montrose and then in downtown Houston's Watermelon Flats Studios which gave her the space and time to accomplish more than 90 paintings and drawings.
Harriet taught as a Teaching Fellow at The University of Houston while attaining her Master's Degree and also taught drawing at Houston's High School For Performing & Visual Arts, The Art Institute Of Houston and The Art League Of Houston.
